Spiderman gave me a little something for the pic.  Totally made my day!  ^_^

Lazy Spider

I promised a work friend I’d do something for his blog, and it’s finally here.

The lazy gamer enjoys chilling with a smoke with his Android tablet and has taken Spiderman as one of his main avatars.  Which of course makes a literal interpretation quite easy.  The only thing I’d change if I had a second run would be rolling up the bottom of the mask.  Thereby making it easier to smoke and also exposing his gotee.

I have also noticed the first thing that draw the attention of men is inherently different from the ladies...

Queen's Park

Queen’s Park

Some clay model type renders.  Hardest part on this run was tweaking the grass (FiberFX), and timing the Depth of Field blur.  Still a lot of work left to do, but I figure a nice milestone render would be nice to share.

Planning to tack on the clouds I've been rendering.  Cool.

Also.  I had no idea you could upload videos directly to Blogger.

Head in Clouds

Animated GIF.  Please be patient =)

Finally, a cloud render I am (somewhat) happy about.  Now, I dont love it. I like it.

After playing with volume and particle clouds with not much success, I went for the stacked planes.  This render is a mash up of iaian’s walkthrough, Denis Pontonnier’s plugins, and Matt Gorner’s lighting.

Next, let loose thousands, indeed TENs of thousand of arrows, to block out the sun.
NVM, there is no sun...

Late welcome

Larry is a resident of New Zealand.
This is sooo old news now, but I’d still like to say something.  As stupid late as it may be...

For those in the Lightwave 3D community, Larry “Splinegod” Shultz is one of the best goto person.  Like ever.  I had the honour of hanging out with him years ago (time flies) and remember what an awesome, funny person he is.  Especially when he’s telling stories.

I think the first one I ever heard was the Temple of Meat, there was a lot of blood and a leather wallet and stitches handWha?  I don’t remember, ask him if you get a chance.  Maybe my mind is blocking something disgusting and creepy.  Was there a goat’s head and 2 spikes?

Regardless, people who’ve heard it all before quietly exit the room when Larry starts up.

Anyways!

The one that made me roll on the floor laughing (literally) was when he was telling us about the time he collected a tarantula the size of your head in a grocery bag and brought it back home to scare his freakishly uptight roommate.  Not only did it freak him to breaking down the front door running outside, he had actually ripped the phone off the wall and took it with him.  Why did he have the phone?  He was using it like a light saber vs the hugh jazz spider.  WTF?

That wasn’t even the best part.  The punchline is got the whole thing on tape and spread it around to EVERYBODY!  Who does that?  Seriously!?  This man has a couple wires in his head wrapped up a little too tight.

Larry, I love you man =D

Break Up

I was thinking,

Even when you’ve been leveled, whats most important is to take what is good, clear the rubble and rebuild.  Rise, phoenix style.

Break down? no
Break up!

Break

I feel sick
I feel like throwing up

Must be the fumes from the jiffy markers

Fabulous Secret Powers

were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said...

“By the Power of Grayskull...I have the POWER!”

Two on the phone sketches from work.

Itching to do She-Ra now.  Maybe even take some time.

燒雞翼,我鍾意食

BBQ chicken wings, I love to eat!

Inspired from a little jingle from Hong Kong cinema's Stephen Chow.
It all started as a ridiculous musical number from The Flirting Scholar and some how ended up in A Chinese Odyssey Part 2.  Chow plays the role of an poet / calligrapher / artist and the Monkey King respectively.

OH!
The Flirting Scholar also stars Gong Li.  You may recognise her as the queen from Curse of the Golden Flower and the token cougar from Miamic Vice.

Life Cycle

Here’s a sneak preview for my dad’s 60th birthday invite.  Obviously, he was born in the year of the rabbit.  How about some cultural background?

The Chinese zodiac consists of 12 animals and 5 elements.  Each animal rotates once a year and every 12 year cycle has an element (metal, wood, fire, water, earth).  A full life cycle would therefore be 60 years.

Very exciting.  ^_^

I have no idea what element my dad is.

Copper Coffee

I work downtown

I see a lot of homeless people. The ones who really are homeless with the long dirty hair, scraggly beard and shoes that don't match. Can’t catch a break, no help, and no hope.

I’m not talking about guy with the creepy grin and the same cardboard sign, with the same story, standing by the same road everyday with his hat out. I know he makes more money than me. I’m talking about the first guy.

I step into my Tim Horton’s in the morning to get my fix and I see a homeless man hanging around. He looks a little confused but is trying to blend in. Not asking for change or anything. Just hanging out. Maybe he was hoping for an unfinished bagel left on the table.

Two police constables walk in. Strong, fast, proud. There are times, I know, management calls in the force to remove the homeless. I took one look at them and shift my gaze because I’m already expecting a brutal ass kicking.

To my surprise, they approach him and start talking. They line up and I’m still looking out of the corner of my eye (cause I personally don't need an ass kicking either) and just waiting for something to happen.

They keep talking

And talking

No batons drawn, no gloves on

Still talking

Finally they’re at the cashier, and the two constable turns and asks him if he wanted a coffee.

!!!

Maybe there is still hope left in the world.

Optic Blast

Part deux of Cyclops

Colours and shadows rendered.

I feel pretty good with this, with exception of the inking.  It was drippy.  A little too drippy at times, but what do you expect dealing with a one eyed monster?

May the fourth be with you.

Off to Van

Off to Vancouver.  Before I go, here's the model sheet for that one commision I talked about.  Here's hoping that it's well recieved.

If the Canucks finish off the Blackhawks tonight, the city is going to be loud!

你班PK, 無眼睇...

1st pick again.
30th place again.

Though I must admit the hope for next year feels real and so not inflated.  I have nothing really smart to say right now, but I’d like to share a couple of thought experiments:

In the long run, do we want to tank it one more year for one more first pick?

What if Pat Quinn were still coach?
What if Craig McTavish were still coach?

If Sam Gagner had a more skilled group around him,  would he be a superstar?
If Ryan Smyth stayed, would the Oilers be where they're at right now?

Do the Oilers need to be rebranded?  Completely new beginning, completely new jerseys?
Can I win Daryl Katz's favour if I redesign a new Oilers look?
Will I get to chill and hangout with the Octane?

No really. Sometimes its like, give the girls the sticks!  They're actually making an effort and working up a sweat.

Cyclops

Hi,

Yes, still alive.  Took 2 commissions and got pulled way from personal artwork.  But, 1 fell through so at least these next weeks won't be as crazy.

Cyclops!  Inspired, of course, by Jim Lee's pencils and Scott Williams’ inks.

Scott Summers in the best Cyclops costume ever!  Yeah, yeah, I know.  Nobody don't like this costume.

Blah blah, it's not new, it's so campy, its not clssic enough to be retro.

Wwwwwwhatevs!

'bold Crack

What if you were in a dungeon crawl and suddenly you realize you’re out numbered in might, mana and manhood?  No problem, call in the desperate Kobold mercenaries thirsting for another chance at blood and gold.

This is ½  or maybe ⅓ of a crazy idea i have rolling in my head.  If it eventually makes sense, I’ll post it.  The trooper on top (and I guess on the bottom too) needs some additional padding or armour to make it a little more interesting, but that is some more drawing for another day.

Scanned graphite on the top, and my first attempt using MyPaint on the bottom.

Give them nothing !!

But take from them, EVERYTHING!!

Not much free time, so I dug up and oldie with a coffee stain (Tim Hortons, large double-double).  Based upon 300 the movie, based upon the Frank Miller graphic novel, based upon the Battle of Thermopylae.

“Our arrows will blot out the sun”
”Meh, we’ll fight in the shade”

Also, updated the header graphic updated with some warm shadows.

Canon Spike

Like many, many, many,  Azns, we grew up with Street Fighter.  This pic of Cammy is a salute to the days of little worries and wasted Saturday nights.

The image itself, scanned graphite, with my first real run at the water colour tool in ArtRage.  I don't know, I think I like the graphite a little more.  It has a nice simplicity to it.  I think I also manned up her screen right arm a little too much.  Here’s both for a comparison.

In other news, master Rui's back at work!  Admittedly he's the whole reason why this is here.  I was a little taken aback, offended even, when I realized he's more online than me.

Getting harder and harder to stay sharp.

Recovery

Borrowed the Eminem CD from a close friend and DAMN!  Solid, absolutely solid.  I didn't get Slim earlier, I really didn't, but now it's like looking into Shady's private sketchbook or diary.  Whoo!  There is heavy, personal issues I can tie myself to.  All the while, he keeps it real.

8/10!  Cause I can't summon the energy to be all angry, all the time.

Metal Tank

Look what I found!  I'm sure it was meant to be a backdrop for some page on the *cough* former website.

Don't remember what the inspiration was.  Maybe I thought it'd be interesting to slap some chains and metal ribbons on a tube-top.

Two points

Updated www.rontang.com and www.waterfallcave.com to point to this blog.

I should never have had delusions of redesigning my website from scratch.  All that's left, actually, wait, no.  Yeah, all that was ever up was this splash page.  I had nothing going.

Queen’s Park

Working hard... at work.  Also said bye to a good friend who is definitely taking a step up in her career.  Go Perrywinkle.

Anyways, this is a site plan I’ve been carrying around for ages now.  The courtyard has some 3D massing and some detail, but definitely a work in progress.  Actually, just assume everything is a work in progress.  I cant remember the last time I actually considered anything done.

Will post a render once I get something somewhat nice looking.

Why didn't anyone tell me?!?!?

There is a KATANA in L4D2 ?!?!?  Yeah I'll be wasting some more time now... this blog is going to have to wait.  Oh, and I finally added the header graphhic
